My experience in banking has taught me many things. However, the most important
lesson was never to underestimate the power of the associates. We concentrate on the things that we “think”
touch the bottom line. We review reports, profits and losses, credit reviews, balance sheets, etc. As an industry,
we fail to nurture and educate our largest asset and our largest expense…our associates. The cost of turnover
is tremendous and the cost of losing a customer due to an associate’s action or lack of knowledge can be detrimental.

I have developed several seminars and programs that meet the needs we have as bankers.
We need to motivate, educate and inspire all associates. This is accomplished for mid to upper management, but we do
not spend the time or money on the ones that actually deal with the customers, our front line. One teller and one
transaction can make or break the lifetime relationship you have with one customer.
